Nike’s Air Max 1 needs little introduction in the sneaker sphere. It’s a legend in its own right, having been a subcultural favourite for a number of decades now. But not only that; its debut back in 1987, when Tinker Hatfield first unveiled the cutting-edge, architecturally-inspired sneaker, marked the beginning of one of the most iconic lines to come from Beaverton: Air Max.

As to be expected with Travis Scott and Nike’s collaborations, the sneaker is given a complete overhaul to reflect their penchant for experimentation. The sidewall Swoosh, for instance, is upscaled, rubberised and reversed — as is typical of their partnerships — while reworked lacing gives a more rugged, outdoor-inspired look. That tried-and-tested Air Max cushioning remains underfoot, only the sole unit features opaque bubbles to really drive home the unconventional appearance. Alongside the Air Max 1 sits two renditions of the Air Trainer 1, honouring the sneaker’s distinctive visual codes while pushing it in a similar experimental direction. The apparel is much like the footwear, too, with neutral hues, unconventional details and premium materials like GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ used.
