The polar bear is much endangered species as more and more of them die due to global warming. The – for survival necessary – sea ice is melting away. The bears have to keep swimming to reach solid ice. Many of them are starving and drowning. Some even turn to cannibalism in the desperate search for food. Those trapped on land hundreds of miles from the nearest ice often wander near villages in search of food and are shot. Two thirds of all polar bears – including all bears in Alaska – could be extinct by 2050 if current trends continue. The rest of the species could have disappeared by the end of the century. But it is not too late to save the polar bear!

Polar bears are usually associated with the color white - even though they are not snow-white. The reflection of the ice makes their fur appear much brighter than it actually is.
