adidas Consortium and Offspring present Orketro ‘London Nights’. Made for London. Inspired by London. Worn by Londoners.
LONDON MINDED. LONDON DESIGNED. LONDON NIGHTS
Introducing Orketro ‘London Nights’: a limited-edition model that prioritises strength, spirit and truthfulness of expression.
London Nights is the first collaboration between adidas Consortium and Offspring. It’s a daring 90’s runner inspired by the boldness and vision of Brutalist buildings. By the shimmering streetlights and neon wilderness of the sweeping London horizon.
DESIGN
Our city at night was the inspiration for our first Consortium Project. A cityscape historically made up of tones of grey, whether that be from centuries old stone buildings to today’s brightly lit modern skyscrapers that litter the skyline, we wanted this shoe to encompass all these facets.
We took Grey as the basis of the design and added a lot of detail through other methods that we felt represented LDN. We firstly took a very simplistic view on a very technical upper. From the mesh, premium suede and nubuck stripes we wanted to use different materials to create texture and contrast in the colour.
We wanted to lift the show by illuminating it in some way from its neutral base, keeping in mind the bright flashing lights of the city.
You will see that The Consortium Lace lock, adi-prene gel, outsole tred and side plug are all a mint green colour. These when expose to light through the day, power up charge and glow in the dark.
We also added fused technology using adidas Xeno material. For those familiar with it, it reflects when hit with light, giving off a rainbow reflection, much like the lights of the cityscape.
With a lot of modern architecture in the city you will see a lot of the inner workings of buildings now on the outside, and in some cases almost used as a feature. We took the same notion with the adidas monogram repeat print. Often found on the insole of classic models of the past, we placed this on the outside of the tongue, hidden under mesh. A small homage to shoes of the past placed on a somewhat modern silhouette.
Its undeniable that modern tech is taking over our towns and cities. There are more and more screens taking over billboard signs or on the side of our buses. We unfortunately couldn’t put a screen on the shoe, as much as we tried however, you’ll find a small hologram on the heel that flips from ‘Adi-prene to Offspring’.
Finally, along with all these hidden details we also adapted the stitch line to show the London Thames outline tying the whole story together.
