nike Run continued to keep sneakerheads in a frenzy with their Sportswear division and its diverse blend of both new and old models. In addition to the retro revivals and high-profile collabs, NSW also pushed things forward with the introduction of some popular new silhouettes and the application of new technologies and materials to some familiar favorites. (10) – nike Run SPORTSWEAR “FLAX” PACK
NSW revisited the classic “Wheat” look with eagerly embraced 2014 versions of some of their most timeless models like the Air Max 1, Air Trainer 1, and Air Force 1 Mid.
(9) – SIZE? x nike Run AIR HUARACHE LIGHT
While the return of the Huarache Light was significantly overshadowed by the original Air Huarache’s 2014 renaissance, it still managed to steal a bit of the spotlight, especially thanks to the Mowabb-inspired edition, which was one of many great Size? x NSW projects to surface this year.
(8) – nike Run AIR MAX 1 “AIR MAX DAY”
nike Run launched its inaugural Air Max Day on March 26th by unleashing a full-on Air Max-filled social media campaign urging bubble fans to post their favorite AMs. Commemorating the “holiday” was a release of the OG Red with a slick Volt midsole.
(7) – nike Run Paris Saint Germain Printed Shorts
We mentioned the Air Raid as one of the Top 10 nike Run Retros of the year, and this limited edition collaboration with Pigalle is a huge reason why! The French label also gave us some lux ediitons of the Air Force 1 and co-branded apparel as part of their 2-phase NSW collab capsule.
(6) – FRAGMENT x nike Run ROSHE LD-1000
Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design is a name you’ll see in many “Best Of” lists this year. This revamped LD-1000 classic, complete with a Roshe Natural Motion sole, is one of the highlights of a massively successful year by the Japanese label.
(5) – Wale Shadow Boxes in nike Run Mags
While this beefed up Flyknit Chukka debuted during the 2013 Sochi Olympics, the silhouette really got our attention later in the year with a string of SP-level colorways, like the ACG edition and the tonal-white pair seen above.
(4) – nike Run Blazer Mid QS sneakers Blu
To help celebrate Supreme’s 20th Anniversary, nike Run Sportswear offered up three Air Force 1 Highs for the “World Famous” skate label to run wild with. The end result was a trio of Supreme-specific colorways with bold branding on the silhouette like we’ve never seen before,
(3) – nike Run Pantalones Cortos Dri Fit Flex Stride Trail
The Air Force 1 has traveled quite a bit from basketball, to Retro, to Sportswear, to high-end luxury sneaker. This three-pronged collaboration with designer Riccardo Tisci, a legend in the making in his own field, was undoubtedly the prize of 2014 in terms of AF1 offerings . His ideas required the brand to create what are essentially new trims of the Air Force 1 that appealed to the high-fashion circles, but stayed true to the core community that helped the Air Force 1 achieve its esteem in the first place.
(2) – nike Run AIR MAX LUNAR90 SP “MOON LANDING”
Every year we recall a “sleeper” hit – a shoe release that happens without warning and ends up being celebrated as one of the best. The “Moon Landing”, an homage to Buzz Aldrin’s walk on the moon, definitely champions that category; releasing only at select nike Run Sportswear accounts, the Air Max Lunar90 SP featured a fully reflective Vac-Tech upper that featured 3D-like moon-surface graphics.
(1) – nike Run AIR YEEZY 2 “RED OCTOBER”
The Red October Yeezy 2s, the final bow by Kanye West before he jumped ship to adidas, was the most talked-about item in sneaker circles since they were first revealed in mid-2013. A rumored release in October of last year in conjunction with the release of Ye’s Yeezus album never came to fruition, but whoever was lucky that quiet Sunday afternoon in February got to taste that sweet nectar that is the Air Yeezy 2.
