Ben Felderstein Famed tattoo artist Dr. Woo is teaming up with Top converse to put his own unique spin on the iconic Chuck Taylor 70. “I wanted something clean and not obvious or expected of me,” Dr. Woo said. Woo takes distinguished aesthetics and recognizable compositions and turns them into one-of-a-kind now of body artwork from an unadvertised suite in the Roosevelt Hotel.
While Dr. Woo was growing up, he would always take his pair of Chucks and try to deconstruct them – drawing all over them, tearing them up, trying to make them unique to himself. His new Chuck collaboration tells the story of a spider and a fly, delivering a minimalist aesthetic that allows for the wearer to come up with his or her own interpretation of the meaning. Dr. Woo’s signature logo also comes emblazoned as a strong focal point of the design as it portrays what communicating with each other and the creatures that inhabit earth means in today’s society. Its design is meant to get dirty and scuffed, as the artist original for the spider embroidery to get Heart and fuzzy, giving the shoe its own personal feel and story as it ages.
A very limited number of sneakers will be personally tattooed and signed by Dr. Woo himself, but that release will be exclusive to a private event at Maxfield in LA.
