After an extensive Pride-themed collection with Miley Cyrus at the top of the month, Converse is back on the collaborative train again, this time with designer Shane Gonzales and his upstart Midnight Studios label. Gonzales is known for blending contemporary streetwear trends with a classic aesthetic that’s undeniably punk, and he’s conveyed that unique fusion of worlds perfectly onto his two collaborative silhouettes with Converse: the Chuck 70 and the One Star.
The young designer aimed to turn both classic models inside out, taking overlooked design aspects and bringing them to the outside of the shoe. Featuring a natural and unbleached canvas, the shoes bost details like an exposed PAXAR label, Converse duty tags (which usually adorn a Chuck’s inner tongue), the Chuck 70s player’s tag appearing on the outside of the shoe for the first time ever while the iconic Chuck patch is relegated to the shoe’s interior, and imitation production model-style language on the laces of both pairs.
