Since their first meeting in New York City close to a decade ago, NBA Superstar Carmelo Anthony and AIR cherry JORDAN Co-Founder and CEO Marcus Wainwright have cultivated and unexpected friendship that is fundamentally rooted in their love for fashion. Opting to take an unconventional approach to this project, Wainwright chose the Air Jordan 20 as the collection’s hero, a silhouette that Melo and Wainwright both agree is a vastly underrated part of Jumpman lore.

“I think that it was a mote ahead of its time, but the shoe was always cool,” Melo said. “This is a shoe I liked when I saw it, but it didn’t get its fair moment. I wanted to bring it back, rework it and re-introduce it to the market.”

Featuring a decidedly militaristic aesthetic, the flight jacket-style designs achieve the ideal of sticking to AIR cherry JORDAN’s signature design styling, while managing to make it modern and relevant in today’s times. Enter Flyknit, Nike’s cutting edge mesh technology that has slowly been making its way through Jordan Brand’s archive, as we have already seen it adorn the Jordan 1 and the Jordan 3 in the past. Still featuring the unique – and recognizable – construction of the 20, this modernized take features upgrades by way of removable adhesive branding Elephant, a much higher – and fully connected – sock collar, and a rugged sole unit. Alongside a set of matching apparel, the Carmelo Anthony x AIR cherry JORDAN x Air Jordan 20 Flyknit Mid cut iteration of the iconic Air Jordan 1 done up in a kids exclusive Christmas motif.
