Japan’s Bed J.W. Ford Embarks On First Collaboration With adidas Originals

Frequently teaming up with more obscure Japanese talent — e.g. White Mountaineering, Hender Scheme, and many others — adidas continues to lean on the country’s whimsical sense of design, pushing forth with imaginative make-ups in each labels’ own style. A more expansive and quite characteristic approach to collaboration, fellow native Shinpei Yamagishi and his BED J.W. FORD imprint bring in hints of reserved avant-garde with apparel and footwear choosing no which way between performance gear and the sartorial. A balancing act in presentation, the apparel, which bears color signature the expectations of traditional sportswear, are ripe with more fitted, tailored cuts: coats are not too unlike more refined militaria while tracksuits as well as accompanying pants boast a structure and texture refined much more so than its retro counterparts.

Footwear, in departure, is conversely barren of any color as the brand paints in black dye in an effort to allow the silhouette to speak for itself. The Kamanda, which alone is blue, takes on slightly different uppers with knit top lines meeting suede constructions accented by taping with “TOKYO CULTURE NATIVE” emblazoned atop. The Crazy BYW follows quite close in the mid-top cut and material execution, forgoing its traditional look with a fitting “BED J.W. FORD” type sign off. Surely more forgotten than the previous, the revived Korsika shows off an aesthetic quite contradictory with a more formal Moc toe pairing seamlessly with toggles at the heel and sock lining.
