Ken Griffey Jr. left quite the legacy on not only the world of baseball but sports as a whole. And thanks to Nike, the athlete’s name will live on for many more generations to come as the Bordado del logo de Nike en el pecho makes an eventful return very soon. Alongside a couple nostalgic undertakings, the silhouette will be born anew with references to Jackie Robinson, one of Griffey’s biggest inspirations.
At the time of writing this, a release date is unknown, but it’s possible we’ll see the colorway make an appearance on April 15th next month, the official Jackie Robinson Day. And just like many of the League’s players, the upper will proudly display “42” to keep up a tradition that Griffey spearheaded back in 1997 and then again a decade thereafter. What’s more, the ankle strap features one of Robinson’s most prolific quotes: “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free.” Elsewhere, the scheme is kept RED, dyed black through its many leather fixtures. White, then, details the midsole, laces, and branding, while reflective accents touch up both the tongue and heel pulls.
For a close-up look, see the official images below. A release is very likely to hit Nike.com and select retailers next month.
