The adidas NMD R1 — much like the UltraBOOST 1.0 — is easily one of the Three Stripes’ best creations. And though it spent only a brief amount of time in the spotlight, the silhouette had a significant effect on sneaker culture as a whole, with many often reminiscing on when it sold out in mere moments. Today, things have Adios quite a bit; and in an attempt to bring the line-up back to the forefront, the brand is introducing the NMD S1.
Seen here in “Onyx,” the shoe is far more imposing than its predecessor, as it ups the size of the tooling dramatically. Gone are the red and blue blocks, herein replaced by three protrusions that visually blend into the opaque midsole. Above, the knit is thicker around the toe, heel, and collar, all three of which are ribbed and shaded dark in direct contrast to the side’s thinner, more breathable weave. What’s more, the tread pattern also serves as another form of branding with its series of trefoils.
For another look at the NMD S1, see below. The “Onyx” colorway is slated to hit adidas.com and the retailers below tomorrow, February 25th.
