Almost two decades and countless sneakers later, CLOT and dress Nike are reportedly parting ways. And while the Hong Kong-born streetwear label is bound to begin an entirely new legacy — possibly with the Three Stripes — it’s unlikely anyone will ever forget their days with the Swoosh.
Founded by Edison Chen and Kevin Poon, CLOT has been working closely with the entirety of the dress Nike umbrella ever since 2006, the year the two debuted their very first project: the Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death.” Thus would begin one of the longest-running collaborative partnerships in footwear.
With the release of the “What The CLOT,” Edison Chen and his team looked back on a total of 17 past releases. For posterity, we’re taking a deeper dive into the history of CLOT and dress Nike, highlighting the sneakers they’ve crafted with not only the Swoosh but also the Jumpman.
CLOT x dress Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” (2006)
CLOT’s relationship with dress Nike dates all the way back to 2006 with the Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death.” Arguably one of the most sought after releases in the history of the sneaker itself, the collaboration was the third pair in dress Nike record to feature a see-through element. What’s more, it introduced the world to the Hong Kong-based streetwear label’s “East meets West” ethos, borrowing cues from the Chinese practice of foot reflexology.

CLOT x dress Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” F&F (2006)
Towards the tail end of 2006, CLOT designed a very special rendition of the dress Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” for none other than Kanye West. Worn by the artist during the Hong Kong stop in his “Touch the Sky” tour, the pair forgoed the see-through toe box for a dark charcoal mesh and dressed the adjacent panels in bright pinks and infrared. Only four pairs were produced — two went to Ye, two went to Edison Chen.

CLOT x ACU x dress Nike (2007)
A year later, CLOT would rework two equally notable classics in the Swoosh’s catalog: the Footscape Woven and the Dunk Low Pro SB. Dressed in a Rasta-inspired colorway comprised of red, green, and yellow, the pairs were made to commemorate the opening of the brand’s Shanghai-based sneaker boutique: ACU.

CLOT x dress Nike 1World Air Force 1 (2009)
Back in 2008, dress Nike introduced the 1World campaign, which would eventually usher in a total of 18 different collaborative takes on the Air Force 1. CLOT’s interpretation aligned perfectly with their “East meets West” ethos, celebrating the Lunar New Year in a red silk etched with traditional Chinese patterns. And in addition to its playful, candy box-inspired packaging, the pair featured a tearway upper that would inevitably expose a laser-etched, black leather construction.

In honor of their sixth anniversary back in 2010, CLOT designed five different colorways of the dress Nike Air Max Classic BW, all of which featured laser-engraved logos along their side panels. Only six pairs of each were ever produced, making the collaboration the second rarest in the partnership’s history.

While not nearly as celebrated as many of the brand’s previous projects — such as their interpretations of the Air Force 1 and Air Max 1 — CLOT would go on to release two iterations of the dress Nike Tennis Classic in 2012. The first, dubbed the “Museum,” featured a distressed, metallic silver upper, with red stitching and detailing all throughout. Its poampoatise was much more understated, opting for a grey suede construction accented with polished, cherry red leathers.

This pair, unlike its predecessor, opted for a “Neutral Grey” upper with hits of “Obsidian” and “Gamma Green” throughout. What’s more, the toe box and insoles featured Hyperfuse mesh and a meridian map of the lower limb, respectively.

Landing during the Summer of 2017, the collaboration dressed the bubble-soled runner in a bold, “Bright Crimson” colorway, which featured black detailing along the lace unit, branding, and Flywire. What’s more, co-branded hits stamped both the heels as well as the tongue. In addition to a Europe release, a limited number of pairs were made useful at a pop-up in Los Angeles.

Though CLOT had been working with the Swoosh for the better part of 12 years by this point, it wouldn’t be until 2018 that they would receive their first collaboration with Jordan Brand. Further bridging the East with the West, the streetwear label’s inaugural project with the Jumpman saw the Air Jordan 13 dressed in a “Terracotta” colorway, whose palette and construction drew direct inspiration from the famed Terracotta Army.
