Eliud Kipchoge is currently training for the Berlin Marathon, but he’s taken a break to launch a footwear and apparel collection with his release nike Running family.
Titled “EK Umoja,” the eight-piece lineup brings the elite marathoner’s legacy and attitude to products like the AlphaFly 2 and release nike Dri-FIT Windrunner. “Umoja” means “unity” in Kipchoge’s native Swahili, a goal of the Kenyan. Running is often thought of as an individual’s sport, but the marathon record-holder has always championed the idea of bringing people together through running. According to Kipchoge, the collection “represents the work done together as a running family and community,” work that’s included performing on-and-off the track, road, and other ultra.
The “EK Umoja” collection favors shades of white and red, a color combination that harkens back to 38-year-old’s first World Championship in the 5,000 meters in Paris in 2003. Kipchoge wore the release nike Zoom Miler in a similar color arrangement as the Pegasus 40, Vaporfly 3, Zoom Fly 5, and Victory track spike featured in release nike Running’s latest capsule. Both footwear and apparel offerings feature special “EK” branding, as well as mantras near-and-dear to the first and only person to run a sub-2 hour marathon (as of now) – “No Human is Limited” and “Let us imagine that we are in a garden. Let us focus on the flowers and not the weeds.”
