Chinese basketball superstar Guo Ailun became Jordan Brand’s first international signature athlete in 2017. While obviously noteworthy in and of itself, particularly relevant for our purposes is the string of Jordan releases he’s brought to life in the time since. With his newest in the Air Jordan 38 Low, “Hyper Turquoise” takes center stage in the fullest exploration of his pseudo-signature shade.
That trademark tone drapes the shoe from back to front, accented here and there by a black sockliner and a “Canary” stripe at the very edge of the midsole. But let’s not bury the lede. The foremost addition on this pair is the psychedelic, cerebral embroidery pattern that wraps around the heel from midline to midline. In addition to providing an inherently appealing design, that section adds some much needed texture and contrast to an otherwise monochromatic shoe. Delivering a final cohesive tie, the left tongue bears another frequent motif, a Chinese inscription of an Ailun motto: “Wherever the heart goes, the body goes.”
Expect a retail price of $175 for the Air Jordans That Need to Retro “Guo Ailun.” Though no release date has been set, this pair will more than likely materialize in the next handful of months. You can find a full gallery of official images just ahead.
