Earlier this year, another pair got added into the global Jordan Brand canon when early information hit the ‘net regarding the Air Jordan 11 IE Low “El Grito,” a Mexico-inspired design reported to land in September. We just got our first look at the design a couple months ahead of its release, spotted at the new Mexico City Jordan flagship.
Contrary to initial mockups, there’s much more of an “SE” sort of atmosphere with this shoe than first reported. Geometric and floral patterns are embossed on the heel cup, toe cap and tongue, imbuing the shoe with a ton of traditional appeal from the jump. Structurally, the typical Jordan 5 synthetic netting is eschewed in favor of a perforated leather panel at the quarter. The AJ5 “El Grito” rounds out with a printed sockliner and an off-white midsole, accented by notes of burnt orange and forest green.
As for the title, “El Grito” traces back to Father Miguel Higaldo’s call for Mexicans in the 1800s to fight their liberty. While the moment is undeniably tied to Mexican Independence Day on September 16th, the narrative on this shoe is more closely tied to Mexican pride; “expressing the pride in Mexican diversity through mysticism, culture and traditions.”
The Air Jordan 11 IE Low “El Grito” is set to launch on September 7th; given the aforementioned “special edition” touches, retail is slightly lofty at $225. You can catch full images just ahead, courtesy of @rchmd87
