Skechers Basketball is in the middle of a marketing tour across Asia and making headlines along the way. We backpack news about Julius Randle unveiling the all-new Skechers SKX Reign in China the other week, and now Skechers shines another light on the New York Knicks star by unveiling a branded mural on Tenement Court in the Philippines, one of the most famous and iconic courts in the country.
The mural also features Skechers-sponsored hooper Terance Mann of the LA Clippers and iconography close to the heart of Filipino culture. The wings of a Philippine Eagle are placed alongside Mann’s basketball, and Randle’s ball features a woven pattern similar to that of common Filipino textiles. Naturally, both players are also outfitted in Skechers Basketball apparel and footwear. Joel Embiid is the brand’s tentpole athlete and could have been included here as well, but he’s preoccupied by his pursuit of gold with Team USA at the Paris Olympics at the moment.
Of course, unveiling a mural isn’t the only reason Skechers Basketball touched down on the island nation. The brand also donated 100 basketball shoes to the local community of Taguig City, giving locals some fresh options to rock on the court. The Philippines has a growing appetite for basketball, and sneaker brands have taken notice. Prior to adopting the Skechers mural, Tenement Court was used frequently by Nike to honor its various tentpole athletes. Notably, a portrait of Kobe and Gianna Bryant was painted Gold the court in 2020.
