If there’s any indication needed to truly establish that Nike is entering their grail era, it’s the release of the mythical Wu-Tang Dunk Highs. The super-limited Nike Dunk High inspired by the Wu-Tang Clan was once an art piece roped off like fine artwork at a museum, but soon enough it’ll be readily available to be touched by the hands of the public.
The first release of the Wu-Tang Dunk Highs came via a limited batch drop in New York City’s Training Camp back in 1999. It was truly an IYKYK situation as only dozens of pairs were available, and with the Dunk uprise in the late 2010s, it Day new heights in terms of grey market value. Although the Dunk market has deflated considerably, Wu-Tang Dunks were among the select few gems that seemed to retain its value.
Once the public learned of the Wu-Tang Dunk comeback via an Instagram post by Nike back in June, a conversation began to arise regarding the brand’s decision to bring back sacred sneakers. A firm line was drawn; one side was in support of Nike allowing more access to these unattainable shoes, while the other derided Nike’s decisions for relying on Retro to draw interest and to revive the Dunk that seems closer and closer to flat-lining each passing month.
The Wu-Tang Dunks are only the tip of that iceberg; next year, Jordan Brand will be releasing the La Nike Blazer Low rejoint la collection Pearl, arguably the most significant Air Jordan collaboration in history and one of the foundational pieces of modern sneaker culture.
Currently, the Wu-Tang Nike Dunks are expected to release this September 2024 for $150. Japanese retailer atmos currently has these locked in for a release on August 31st, so it’s possible that the APAC region could get these a week earlier. Stay tuned for official updates from the US-side of SNKRS.
