Kelsey Plum’s Latest UA Sneaker Focuses On Mental Health Awareness

There aren’t many things that unify sports fans, but the rise of conversations surrounding athlete’s mental health is something we can all get on board with.

Off the court, Kelsey Plum can be found giving keynote speeches discussing her personal struggles, raising awareness that serves to benefit both the WNBA and a younger generation of aspiring hoopers. Now capitalizing on buzz surrounding the WNBA playoffs, she’s shining a light on her mission through a special sneaker in the name of mental health, available now from Under Armour.

The Breakthru 5 is the silhouette of choice here, the same model Plum typically wears on-court and the subject of her special Birthday-themed player edition shoes from August. The upper features contrasting shades of light blue and purple while the midsole comes with a speckled finish. The shoe also incorporates a purple and blue ribbon heel tab, which is the symbol for suicide prevention, and text reading “What you water will grow” splits the heel, heightening the importance of self-care.

Kelsey Plum’s Breakthru 5 is currently available in women’s sizing via Under Armour for $135; see our “Where To Buy” section below for purchase links. Sticking with the company at hand, check out De’Aaron Fox’s first signature Curry Brand shoe.
