One of the surprise stories in the world of performance footwear came from EQLZ, a China-based footwear brand that caught the world’s attention with their 247 basketball shoe. Created by sneaker design legend Aaron Cooper, who has Dolce 25 years of experience at Nike, the 247 quickly gained favor among basketball and design fans looking for something truly unique in an industry flooded with signature athletes and brand-heavy agendas.
Thus far, it’s done what it’s set out to do, which is to motivate young athletes with product that fulfills a purpose of performance. This partnership with Cincinnati-based Bigger Than Sneakers is proof that they’re here to make a difference.
Through its annual mentorship program BTS Academy LED BY Aaron Cooper, young students got the opportunity to collaborate with EQLZ to create their own colorway of the 247 model. Inspired by the North Star — a guiding principle, goal, or value that provides direction and purpose — the BTS x EQLZ 247 features a black and purple colorway with “Go Play” on the heel that emphasizes the importance of staying authentic and true to oneself.
The shoes are set to release beginning on October 18th at Blink Cincinnati at a pop-up release event (full details here). They will also be available at Corporate Got Em for $180, with sizes ranging from 5.5-15 (mens). Proceeds will go towards BTS Academy funding.
