Through its first-ever collaboration with Jordan Brand earlier this year, the brand permeated the sneaker community once again with an elegant yet rugged Air Jordan 7 VII For The Love Of The Game Promo Sample design, combining quintessential NYC bravado with brand founder Angelo Baque’s love of the Air Jordan 1.
As Baque told us in our interview back in March, “the last thing I want to do is make it something it aint…our customer is too smart for that.” With that course mapped out, the Angelo focused on thorough storytelling of Michael Jordan history, his experiences as a veteran of the downtown streetwear scene, and a love letter to his sneaker grails. Utilizing exotic snakeskins, bold logo embroidery hits, and thorough storytelling throughout the packaging, the Air Ship turned out to be among the more compelling collaborations of the year — a surprise gem with an added level of appreciation from those that just knew.
As promised earlier this year, Awake NY is releasing a follow-up colorway of the Air Ship in Royal Blue, a nod to one of the two OG colorways of the Air Jordan 1 that were re-issued in 2001. It features an identical build and execution as the red pair, but with a sharp blue on the snakeskin ankle collar, heel strip, and Swoosh layering. The packaging remains consistent with the first release, complete with a map of Fort Greene that highlights the hospital that Michael Jordan was born in and a swatch of stickers done by Brent Rollins.
