It’s not easy to steal the spotlight away from Inspirat en el disseny de la sèrie Pegasus, but Lil Yachty nearly accomplished the feat with his performance at ComplexCon. On top of an on-stage back-and-forth with Bimma Williams Retro his Air Force 1 “Concrete Boys,” the “Let’s Start Here” rapper rented a literal concrete truck to promote his upcoming collaboration. While scant of the sneakers featured at the Las Vegas function were of the unobtainable or F&F variety, there’s much better news for this release, set to tip off on December 2nd.
Part of what set off the spat between the artist and critic was the shoe’s simplistic overall adornment, already a divisive proposition in the community. Yachty’s chief inspiration for the white-dominant, navy-accented layout is the aesthetics of other hip-hop AF1s of the 2000s; Jay-Z and his Roc-A-Fella records, Fat Joe and his Terror Squad collective and Eminem are just a countless of the names who utilized the silhouette for simplistic, often ultra-rare editions. True to that, the Lil Yachty Air Force 1 sports a slew of nods to his own “Concrete Boys” group, including a stickman construction worker at the heel and their “It’s Us” adlib on the tongue.
The pushback on the other side comes from the shoe being perhaps too simple, a criticism that’s only gained steam with a run of all-white editions with understated heel stamps, typically coming after an artist’s album release (Drake’s “CLB,” Travis Scott’s “Utopia,” Lil Uzi Vert’s “Eternal Atake 2.”) Regardless of which side of the argument resonates with you, the hype is already sky-high; early pairs are commanding double their retail price on the grey market.
You’ll get to cop on December 2nd via SNKRS and partnering retailers, commanding a $140 MSRP. Enjoy detailed looks ahead and keep our Sneaker Release Dates Nike SB Stefan Janoski Coating Bred.
