Beatrice Domond has been a trailblazer throughout her skating career, once standing as the only female signee on the vaunted Supreme roster. However, as she and Vans near four years of partnership, she’s taking things back to the beginning, playing out deep personal and familial themes on her Vans OTW Mary Jane Elevate.
While converting sneakers in Mary Janes and loafers has become something of a craze in 2024, Vans was well ahead of the curve, and Domond’s collaboration builds off the DNA of their mainline Vans Mary Jane. Of course, the lugged, boot-like traction underfoot that lends the “heightened” aspect of the name is a divergence, but shifting to a healthier leather build up top furthers the sturdy rather than dainty lean of this shoe. Even still, there’s no shortcuts taken in terms of materials; goatskin linings collide with the aforementioned leather and Era for refinement the whole way through.
As for the personal touches, the insole showcases the best example, with a map of Haiti pressed into the interior of Beatrice Domond Mary Jane Elevate. Domond’s childhood is truly the guiding light for this link-up, with a short documentary feature capturing she and her grandmother discuss some of her early years, the elder Domond speaking in Creole and Beatrice responding in English.
The Beatrice Domond Vans OTW Mary Jane Elevate releases on December 19th, retailing for $120. As of writing, otw.vans.com will be the only channel stocking this collab. Catch femme images and some on-whites included below.
