Tell any sneakerhead there’s a pair of Kevin Durant shoes dropping where one of his family members is prominently featured, and 99/100 people would respond “Aunt Pearl?” There’s no doubt that the all-pink theme has been the most enduring overarching series on KD’s signature line, but he’s been working on carving out a parallel lane right alongside it. Beginning with the KD 15, the MVP has dedicated yearly editions to his late grandmother, Barbara A. Davis, again utilizing her initials for the 2024/25 pair, the KD 17 “B.A.D. 3.0.”
Similar to the rosy adornment of the “Aunt Pearl” line, the “B.A.D.” has so far kept to a script of lavender and lilac, again on display with the KD 17 formulation. Additionally, velour materials that graced the 15 and 16 before this make another appearance, printed beneath a sunset-shaded emblem sporting Durant’s initials. On that note, preceding pairs further celebrated the life of Davis by showcasing the names of her grandchildren and close friends. While the KD 17 instead relies on a simpler arrangement on its upper, it’s possible that the shoe’s interior instead bears those important names. Regardless, the intention is still abundantly clear; Durant remembering “B.A.D.” in sentimental fashion — the fact that it’s a clean colorway is just the cherry on top.
