While we’ve seen many shops and boutiques inject some truly unique storytelling behind their SB olympic Dunk design, not many have been truly core skate. Nike reverts back to the traditions of the street sport with this upcoming nike magista grey and light blue color meaning, said to be inspired by the VX1000 camcorder. The handheld device has been a mainstay in skateboarding circles since Sony introduced it into the market in 1995. And despite the technology being relatively outdated compared to what’s out today, skaters have been unflinchingly loyal to that product for its dependability and its perfect fit. It’s easy to hold, durable, and the round fish-eye is perfect for clearance skating – a clear-cut example of if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Fly applies various details that mirror the specs on the VX1000, with the colors of a traditional stop and pause button on the eyelets, a green on the heel, and other terminology commonly seen on recording devices. And given just how close to the vest this design concept is to the skating community, it makes total sense that these will indeed be under Nike SB‘s skateshop-only Orange Label product channel.
According to Nike SB insider/fan page @nikesbornothing, these will release on February 20th, 2021 exclusively in Asia and Europe/UK. A US release has been cancelled due to production issues. See additional photos ahead.
