Manned by Evan Belforti and Ryan Forsyth, Reebok Special Projects is owed credit for some of the hottest shoes of the past year. From the Premier Road Modern to the DMX Trail Shadow, the inline series hasn’t slowed down one bit — 2021 being no exception. And soon, their latest work, the Zig 3D Storm Hydro, should be available at a number of retailers.
Deceptively simple, the silhouette’s Triple Black colorway masks a number of complex fixtures. Inspired by water shoes, soccer boots, and, specifically, the Winter Runner III from 2000, the upper flaunts an intricate fastening system known as the ShelterShield. This shroud covers the instep in entirety, wrapping around the lace unit and foot for both security and extra protection. Part of the vector logo, then, marks atop, completing the branding that starts first along the medial side’s underlayer. Elsewhere, the design features TPU side walls, Speed Lace systems, reflective welding, and an “amplified” Zig Kinetica II sole.
