Since the return of the Air Griffey Max 1, Nike has continued to celebrate Ken Griffey Jr. in a number of ways. And soon, said nods will get a bit more specific as the ankle references the athlete’s “Spider-Man Catch” with this forthcoming Vapormax Plus.
Due likely in part to licensing issues, any overt mention of the superhero is certainly forbidden. Nike, though, has gotten around this with rather minimal graphic work, dressing just the insole with a web print. What’s more, Griffey’s jersey number is entangled between the blue-tinged, silken threads, completing a decipherable homage to the Mariners and the incredible play in question. In contrast, the pair’s exterior keeps things simple, displaying a two-toned look that sandwiches the darker middle line between two blocks of white. The aforementioned team’s Northwest Green, then, completes the upper via the tongue ankleing and heel pull.
