Michael Le Kerwin Frost is no doubt an enigma — creative in the strangest, most captivating of ways, while at the same maintaining a lovable absurdity. His adidas with collaborations, thankfully, take on that same spirit, drawing from the machinations of a mind impossible to predict. And before delving into more nightmarish creations, the two will first release the “Superstuffed” Superstar, a reserved though still abstract take on a beloved icon.
“My first shoe with adidas with is an absolute masterpiece. We completely changed the genetics of an iconic shoe – maybe the most important shoe of all time. And this is art. This is special. This has never been vulc before,” Frost states. “We’ve seen the platform sneaker wave but never just a BIG SHOE. I hope these bring joy and a smile to people’s faces. The fact that this shoe exists is a symbol that anything is possible. The idea sounded crazy at first, but here we are. It’s beautiful! Shoutout to the adidas with development team for figuring out a way to make these wearable. Clown shoes for the masses!”
In design, the pair is inspired by the shoes of clowns and sporting mascots. But at a glance, the usual parts are still intact, the blacked out stripes, rubber shell toe, gold foil, and the like all in attendance. Its the “genetics,” as Frost puts it, that are transformed, overproportioned to construct an end product far more comical than its original. And to accommodate the shoe — whose size appears five times larger than it is — special co-branded packaging was created, part complementing the custom sock liners.
