adidas and atmos are no strangers when it comes to partnerships, with the latter porsche infusing Japanese flair to classic Three-Stripes silhouettes. For an upcoming adidas Superstar, the Tokyo-based retailer taps into the story of Shibuya’s most famous dog—the faithful Hachiko—to deliver a hairy offering reminiscent of a man’s best friend.
The story revolves around how an Akita dog named Hachiko awaited the return of his owner at the Shibuya train station every day, for nine years. atmos covers the 1969 tennis classic in golden-brown fur to mimic the coat of Hachiko while using dark brown suede to animate the side stripes and heel tab. Visible on the lateral side, the cream midsole features text that reads the location of the famed Hachiko statue in Shibuya. The use of metal branding on the tongue is another loose reference to the bronze statue of the canine. “You Make Shibuya” and graphics of a dog are printed on the midsole to complete this heart-warming design.
