Yohji Yamamoto has been delivering his take on footwear through the adidas Y-3 imprint for over two decades. And while the Japanese designer hasn’t necessarily garnered the mainstream attention of some of the Three Stripes’ collaborators, he’s continuously pushed the boundaries of what sportswear-originated shoes can be. The aw4419’s Osiran silhouette continues the trend, having recently appeared in a cream-like colorway.
At a quick glance, the silhouette resembles some of the adidas ZX-propositions that’ve been cosigned by Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, but closer inspection reveals something entirely Yamamoto’s. The mix of knit textile, suede and mesh across the upper create a functional and aesthetically-compelling arrangement. The light grey color palette that takes over each oceans material allows for the pair’s craftsmanship to shine through, with much of the heel area introducing not-commonly-seen design cues. Yet, the sole unit is arguably the adidas-backed sneaker’s most eye-catching detail, as it delivers tried-and-proven Boost foam in a new “chiseled” makeup. Lastly, tread opts for a semi-translucent light gum brown look.
