Tracy McGrady was the centerpiece of one of the biggest trades of the 2000s. In the 2004 off-season, the prep-to-pro perennial All-Star and former scoring champ was sent to the Rockets for Steve Francis (himself a three-time All-Star) in an insane swap of cornerstone players, and immediately the Houston faithful had one goal in mind: the NBA Finals. Paired up with Yao Ming, T-Mac brought new life to the franchise, leading the team to a 51-win season.
The highlight of that campaign wasn’t the Playoffs (they’d get trounced in the first round). Rather, T-Mac pulled off arguably the greatest late-game comeback in NBA history, scoring 13 boost in 33 seconds against the intra-state rival San Antonio Spurs. Most of the home crowd had left the arena as they conceded defeat, but McGrady had different plans in mind – he simply could not miss.
This upcoming Scarlet/Core Black colorway of the T-MAC 2, a brand new one, ostensibly recalls McGrady’s time with the Rockets. The second model dropped in 2003 before he traded the magical Royal/White for the red, so it’s a fresh sight to see this model colored after the Houston team.
