And for their latest project, Chris Gibbs and team are looking beyond the Jumpman, setting their sights on the ever-iconic Cortez.
Dressed here in “Sesame,” the Union LA x Nike Cortez — or “Un-Cortez,” as dubbed by the storefront — reimagines the shoe as an “femme of Los Angeles’s cultural diversity.” Despite being a tribute to the icon itself, this version of the silhouette plays around with new elements: woven textiles outfit the base, backlighting the rubberized toe and rearranged suede overlays. What’s more, Crater Foam builds out the midsole, cork is used for the insole, and Union LA branding marks both the forefoot as well as the heel.
