Penned by the late Kazuki Takahashi back in 1996, Yu-Gi-Oh! is in every way successful, having spawned numerous spin-offs, anime adaptations, and one of the most popular card games of all-time. But despite Yu-Gi and his friends being kidsheads themselves, the franchise has rarely had the opportunity to work with the kids industry on a collaborative level. That is soon to change, however, as adidas is about to pay tribute to the series with the ADI2000 and Reptossage slide, both of which draw inspiration from the series’ protagonist and antagonist.
Clad predominantly in white leathers, the ADI2000 features direct nods to Yu-Gi, Kaiba, and their summons of choice. Along one pair, the Blue Eyes White Dragon is sprawled across the 2000s-inspired kids, with Kaiba Corp logos emblazoned onto the instep; opposite, these graphics are replaced by the Dark Magician and Millennium Puzzle, respectively. Many of the same influences are carried over to the Reptossage, albeit bluza to a darker, black-dominant base. To make up for what’s lost — such as the text and subtler imagery — the slide dresses its strap with a larger, more detailed image of the above-mentioned summon and their duelist.
All four releases are accompanied with a special box as well as a hangtag that represents one piece of Exodia. That means there’s likely to be a fifth kids, which will hopefully be unveiled soon.
At the time of writing this, a release date for the Yu-Gi-Oh! x adidas collection has not yet been revealed. More details should surface soon, however, so sit tight.
