The GEL-LYTE III has had a relatively busy year thus far. Alongside teaming up with Ronnie Fieg for his 99th and 100th collaboration with ASICS, the silhouette has released countless inline colorways, from a tribute to the Masters Tournament to a range of “Colored Toe” styles. And with Spring now officially here, the Shigeyuki Mitsui-designed icon is receiving yet another makeover, this pair inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
Part of the footwear brand’s “Ocha Zome” collection, the GEL-LYTE III “Rooibos” is built almost entirely with recycled textiles, each panel dyed using leftover ingredients from the production of matcha tea. This lends a very natural color to much of the construction, whose overlays and base proffer a light and dark shade of brown, respectively, subtly resembling the look of unground tea leaves.
Finished with distressed edges and sat atop a cream bottom, the ASICS GEL-LYTE III “Rooibos” should be hitting select retailers as well as ASICS.com soon. As we await more details, sit tight and take a look at the pair via the official images ahead.
