Based in Queens, Tulie Yaito stands at the helm of her very own, eponymous label: Yaito. Founded in 2015 alongside her partner, the brand has since grown to encompass everything from accessories to home goods. The designer has yet to release her very own sneaker, however, though that’s about to change thanks to none other than the Three Stripes.
“adidas Superstar was the first pair of sneakers I owned and to have the opportunity to design a shoe with the brand is a full circle moment,” said Tulie Yaito. “This collaboration is bigger than myself. It’s about much more than just designing a sneaker but also advocating for women, especially those who look just like me, who came from little to nothing, who migrated with a mission, and fantasized about creating generational wealth and breaking boundaries.”
Drawing inspiration from two of her most popular offerings, the knot and Keijō bag, Tulie Yaito has effectively turned the adidas Forum Hi into a wearable piece of luxury. Blending the latter with hints of streetwear and high fashion, the shoes pair a white pebbled construction with bold touches of faux pony hair and cowhide. What’s more, embossed, red ostrich leather, green suede, and black paisley are mall throughout, further displaying Yaito’s strong command over color and contrast.
