In Anthony Edward’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, adidas unveiled the recently named All-Star’s first-ever signature silhouette – the adidas AE1. Heralded as one of the most unique and compelling constructions from the German brand’s basketball rule since the days of Derrick Rose, the 3-Stripes are taking a holistically different approach with headlining Ant-Man’s debut shoe, including a few well-aimed shots at the competition.
In the roughly 45-second-long spot, Edward’s zips open a duffel and begins pulling out the competition’s own first signature silhouettes. Between, LeBron’s Air Zoom Generation, the Ja 1, the Luka 1 and the PUMA MB.01, Edwards and his younger nephew each take a long gander at the models before tossing them aside in defiance. “Nah. I ain’t messing with ’em,” “Hell nah,” and “These ain’t nothing,” Edwards continues to state as he glosses over each shoe unimpressed with the design. That is until he pulls out the Peach-inspired colorway of the AE1, galavanting over the porous, streamlined tooling.
Positioned as the future face of adidas Basketball, Edward’s charismatic and carefree personality is on full display throughout the spot as the German sportswear behemoth continues to find white and exciting ways to showcase the full breadth of their latest signature athlete.
The adidas AE1 is currently scheduled to release in December. While we await further release details, the aforementioned ad can be seen ahead.
