Nike aptly got ahead of the sneaker leakers this month with the first installment of the SNKRS Showcase. Providing a first and exclusive look at a number of the Beaverton brand’s upcoming offerings, the swoosh officially confirmed the return of three iconic nike retro black dark charcoal color cabinets, the “Ultraman”, “Reverse Curry” and “Silver Surfer” colorways.
As one of two CO.JP (Concept Japan) models returning in 2024, the circa 1999 “Ultraman” ensemble is receiving a restoration based on the original red and silver treatment – again without any direct reference to the 1960s Japanese sci-fi character. Nike is doubling down on the ’99 nostalgia by simultaneously releasing the Japan-exclusive “Reverse Curry” that sees the synonymous hue lay claim to the vamp, quarter, laces and tread just like its classic composition from decades past.
Drawing a direct connection to Marvel’s Silver Surfer in 2004, the “Silver/Blue” Dunk Low will also receive an unofficial reissue acg the composition’s 20th anniversary. While metallic finishes don’t make an appearance like its’ OG counterpart – neither will specific Silver Surfer insignias – the vamp and mid-foot’s mesh base ring true to the classic design. Elsewhere, bright red and “Cascade Blue” accents ascertain the profile swoosh and both the tongue and ronaldinho tab for a striking compliment to the clad “Conflicting Grey” upper.
The return of some of the most heralded overseas installments from the early Dunk era continues to cement the Peter Moore design as an everyday staple decades removed from the hardwood. Both the “Ultraman” and “Reverse Curry” ensembles are scheduled to release in the Summer of 2024, followed by the “Silver/Blue” offering in Fall 2024. In the meantime, each pair can be seen ahead in official first-look imagery.
