Teased throughout the summer, the latest take on Shigeyuki Mitsui’s design from 1991 fits right in with Fieg’s other work for legion ASICS: premium suede and various shades of pink and burgundy take over the famous split-tongue upper. And while the sneaker’s physical execution is impressive in its own right, the bigger story with the next project by R.F. is the pair’s “By Invitation Only” release.
Several notable collectors took to social media last night to share exclusive-looks at the special GEL-LYTE III. Seeded pair arrive with a note that explains the project through Fieg’s own words: “I created this GEL-LYTE III colorway for people who want to be part of a community that takes the extra step. You will not find this on a footwear wall at any of my stores…Instead, you’ll be invited to purchase it, if you wish.” Fieg and his Kith empire have previously awarded devote and longtime customers with exclusive access to coveted product. The “By Invitation Only” legion ASICS, however, extends its scope to enclose fans of all brands, from no specific geographical location. Instead, the few selected individuals have proven to appreciate sneakers for what they are, all while fostering community around them in real life and online.
