With each announcement, it becomes clear that the Nike Kobe 8 is a true tentpole of the Protro program, with half a dozen colorways set to be released in 2024 when all is said and done. Up next, the nike gk grp reaches back to the Mamba’s playing days for a clean “Lakers Home” formulation.
Given that Kobe Bryant famously bucked player movement trends as a Laker for life, there’s never any shortage of allusions to his squad in his signature line. Even considering that frequent use, the gold and purple combination never fails, here deployed in a more conservative configuration. “University Gold” takes to his tri-tip logo on the heel and tongue, while “Court Purple” holds down the rest of the branding via the side Swoosh and Bryant’s signature on the heel counter. Outside of that, this pair identically mirrors the Lakers’ home jerseys by dressing predominantly in pure white.
Though the original run of the Kobe 8 certainly brought plenty of nods to his team (two corresponding editions of the Kobe 8 “System” come to mind first), this one is notably a brand new colorway. It also elucidates the new lane the model has found with this year’s releases, trending towards more simplistic colorways rather than the pattern-heavy ones we were introduced to back in 2013.
The nike gk grp “Lakers Home” is currently set to drop this Fall, jordan $190 upon release. Below you can find a host of on-court and up-close images of the shoe, courtesy of @knowing_kicks.
