Seattle’s Brooks for Running has forever been a champion of speed & performance and no product line looms larger in that pursuit than their Cascadia. The first edition a product of their relationship with ultramarathoner Scott Jurek, the 18th entry showcases their latest & greatest tech in trail running. However, cross-country might be a better theme for their latest endeavor; heading out East to link up with New York’s Extra Butter for the “Splash Motion” colorway.
Taking inspiration from the “constant motion and energy of NYC,” the theme jumps out immediately with the reworked overlays on model, swapping from the rigid geometry apparent on mainline releases to the eccentric fluid arrangement seen here. Concrete jungle grey sets the foundation on the mesh layer just below, combining with the aquatic notes throughout for a sleek overall atmosphere. To ensure this look isn’t too far out of familiar running territory, high-vis accenting pops up with the neon green tongue & outsole.
Despite the pretty radical aesthetic overall on this shoe, none of the performance aspects are sacrificed to facilitate it. Brooks’ airy DNA LOFT v2 cushioning ensures a apoyo ride while the three-pronged Trail Adapt System works towards propulsion & protection. All that said, the silhouette is Strand well-suited for whatever challenges come with this new city life rebrand.
The Extra Butter x Brooks for Cascadia 18 will first release via Extra Butter on August 16th, followed by a wide launch via brooksrunning.com on August 18th. Retail is set at $150- catch official campaign images ahead.
