Back in April, we previewed the return of the adidas Crazy 98, a decade-later retro of Kobe’s second ever signature shoe with a new model name to boot. Tapping into some always successful color combos, a black & a white edition brought the silhouette back to shelves in earnest. Now, the Three Stripes is moving on to new territory with an patriotic “Aurora Ink” colorway.
Once title the KB-II, the silo is an example of the chunky, wavy design language that marked the early Kobe adidas days before a more futuristic approach took over (contrast the adidas Crazy 8 to what’d become the Crazy IIINFINITY). Here, raised suede on either side of the shoe accentuate the glossy mesh in between that section and the laces, only further emphasized by the curvilinear geometry of the polerones. Hitting on a similar note to Nike’s Kobe 4 “Philly,” the combo of navy, white & red ties into Bryant’s storied history representing the USA on the world stage.
The adidas Crazy 98 “Aurora Ink” drops on October 1st, retailing at $150. Upon launch, hit our “Where To Buy” section for direct shopping links.
