After a crushing final seconds loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the first round of NBA Playoff action last night, Knicks fans everywhere went to bed heartbroken over the Game 1 road win upset that almost was. One of the only silver linings in the defeat was getting a look at the new playoff edition of Carmelo Anthony’s seventh signature shoe from Jordan Brand. Decked out in an always-fresh royal/orange/black NYK color scheme, Melo’s post season shoe features a thin Flywire-infused composite upper rather than the bulkier, more heavily padded original version, giving it an added performance edge as well as a slick aesthetic reinterpretation.
As a result, the shoe sheds a full ounce of weight, providing Melo with a lighter step underfoot just in time for the playoff second wind, similar to the concept recently seen with the air jordan 30 xxx black cat new style. Much to our delight, a large package arrived this morning containing a pair of the Melo M7 Advance PE’s seen last night, complete with a gorgeous blacked-out wooden box featuring a Melo crest on top and a tonal black Jumpman in front. Inside the box, a “MELO STATE OF MIND” t-shirt is encased in a plexiglass window etched with the tagline, “Born in Brooklyn. Manufactured in Baltimore. Refined on hardwood.” Below the t-shirt are 7 coins, each one symbolizing an aspect of Melo’s life.
After pulling off the top layer of the packaging, the inside reveals the Knicks Melo M7 Advance debuted last night housed in a perfectly carved out foam bedding. It’s historically hard to go wrong with a Knicks colorway and between that and the interesting combination of suede and a Flywire shell on the upper, these definitely don’t disappoint. The Melo M7 has widely been considered to be one of, if not the best Melo signature yet, and this colorway and sleeker stripped-down version might just put it over the top. Check out some more pics of the shoes and collector’s box after the jump, and if you like what you see, the Knicks colorway of the Jordan Melo M7 Advance will hit select retailers on June 1st in standard JB packaging. Much thanks to Jordan Brand for the closer look!
