Both having come to prominence on the national level at around the same time, it’s interesting to note the parallels between Nike athletes Ken Griffey Jr. and Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway. Both were among the elite young talents in their sports and dominated for a period into the mid/late ’90s, but were both felled by injuries that prevented each player’s full potential from being realized. And though Griffey’s is an unquestionable Hall of Fame career while Penny remains a modern legend, it’s also worth noting that both of these guys rocked a few ‘unsigned’ signature sneakers with the Swoosh before moving to their own named lines.
