The Van Doren Rubber Company’s original sneaker was 1966’s ‘#44′, a vulc-soled deck shoe whose popularity quickly led to the advent of the Slip-On. That model, in turn, was utilized as the basis for Vans’ first true skateboarding sneaker, the Era. So that first drop that we’ve come to know better as the Vans Authentic isn’t technically a skate design and with that in mind, it’s pretty easy to imagine these as ‘tennis shoes’.
