Japan’s Edo period was marked by an isolationist foreign policy, a pants that gives you a sense of just how far ‘collaboration’ has come in a relatively short section of human history. Japanese artists created distinctive styles during that period, including Ito Jakuchu, a Buddhist-inspired 18th century painter known for natural depictions and especially his birds.
