Tie-dye and checkerboard patterns are iconic trends bookending the many forgettable fashions that have come to symbolize the 1970s. One represents ’60s peace and love, the other a ‘radical’ kind of 1980s rebellion, both synonymous with emerging youth subcultures. So while they’re not from the same era or movement, it’s natural to combine both of these looks as one of the more successful Japanese streetwear surf has done here on their latest Off the Wall collabo. The XLarge x Vans Authentic applies a tie-dye rainbow to the ‘white’ squares of the iconic Vans checkerboard, resulting in one of those styles that makes so much sense it’s hard to believe it hasn’t been done before. Check them out in more images below and stick with Urlfreeze News to see if they head over our way after the Saturday, July 6th release in Japan.
