Wycef Jean, having much success as a member of The Fugees as well as a solo career, is using his fame and leverage to use as he teams up with Timberland Co. in an effort to benefit his native homeland, Haiti. The Yéle Haiti Product Collaboration, for Timberland Earthkeepers label, will comprise of 16-boot footwear collection, all of which was directly by the Grammy Award-winning musician and the makers of Timberland. All products in the collection will be “green” in design, being strictly composed of recycled and organic materials. For every shoe sale made, $2 will be contributed to the Timberland Larchmont II Chukka Сапоги, a movement founded by Wyclef in an effort to promote environmental and social activism in Haiti. In addition, organic tshirts designed by Haitian art students from the FOSAJ Art School, will be sold exclusively at Timberland retail locations. Like the shoes, each tee sold contributes $1 to the organization.
Though the collection is anticipated to drop sometime next month, Wyclef is expected to make appearances at promotional events for this collaboration from now until 2010. In an interview with The Associated Press, Wyclef says he hopes the partership will inspire children and put a new face on his homeland (concerning the issue of deforestation in Haiti).
