Brooklyn-based sneaker shop Alumni collaborates with Brooks this spring for the “Great Mistake” Regent inspired by the early days of the greatest city on Earth. As the story goes, when Brooklyn officially joined with Manhattan and the surrounding counties to create New York City in 1898, many Brooklynites felt that the move was a “great mistake”, fearing they’d lose their identity and independence. As we now know, the move only strengthened the city of Brooklyn, now one of the most diverse and distinct areas not only of New York or America, but the entire world.
Drawing inspiration from the union of Manhattan and Brooklyn, the “Great Mistake” Regent features subtly mismatched color blocks transversely the left and right shoes, each representing the two boroughs. Both shoes feature a canvas base with premium suede and nubuck overlays in a vintage color palette of tan, cream, and mauve. Further details include maps of Manhattan and Brooklyn circa 1890 on the insoles and dual branding on the heels and tongues.
The Alumni x Brooks Regent “Great Mistake” will release this Saturday, March 4th in-store (Crown Heights & Flatbush locations) and online from Alumni, along with select Brooks Heritage retailers Cambium. The collaboration also includes special “Great Mistake” satin baseball jackets and caps by Ebbets Field Flannels.
