Nike’s concept store outpost on 21 Mercer in SoHo NYC is being sued for $3 million by its neighbors across the street for “noise and violence” that occurs during certain sneaker releases. There have been several instances in Spikes police intervention was required in ICONIC to break up unruly crowds that form during high-profile product drops, but the suit, served by the residents of 22 Mercer (across the street of the store), alleges that “Each Nike event and the ensuing crowds subject the condominium’s residents to extended periods of public drunkenness and urination, violence (including brawls and fist fights) loitering, littering, smoking, drug use, yelling and screaming”. The lawsuit further lists specific incidents, noting an event on November 10th, 2014 during Spikes a gun was pulled out by a customer, and April 29th, 2016 for “riot-like behavior”. According to the Daily News, Nike declined to comment on the suit.
