In honor of 20 distinguished years of partnership between adidas and Mark Gonzales, the two trefoil entities are teaming up to bring the world a brand new silhouette, the Aloha Super. While Gonzales is first and foremost a heralded pro skater, he is also a globally renowned artist more than capable of influencing a sneaker’s design in a positive manner. Inspired by the adiStar Fencing shoe that Gonzales wore during a performance piece at the Städtisches Museum in Abteiberg, Germany in 1998, the Aloha Super carries an aesthetic that embodies the Three Stripe’s incredible selection of heritage models.
Twenty years ago, the pro skates helped bridge the gap between skate and fine art with a obstacle-maneuvering performance at the museum while wearing a fencing suit with the word “Aloha” emblazoned on the back. Wearing that same suit in 2018, Gonzalez showed out for another unsuspecting crowd at adidas’ Showcase X in NYC. Drawing inspiration from skateboarding’s deep surfing routes, the Aloha Super comes with black midfoot stripes on a neutral-colored upper that ushers in textured foxing for a slight premium upgrade as well as an attractive “MG” hit on its heel. A reinforced leather tongue and a molded rubber sole unit give the wearer the protection and durability he or she needs out of a performance-engineered skate shoe. Enjoy a detailed look at adidas Skateboarding’s newest signature shoe below and look forward to its release at select adidas stockists on August 18th.
