World famous actor and motivational speaker by day, amateur sneaker unboxer by night. This afternoon Will Smith and the Jordan Brand launched a hilarious marketing campaign surrounding the laceless Air Jordan 5 “Fresh Prince” that is set to release on September 25th, Smith’s 50th birthday. As part of the ad, Smith took to his YouTube account to launch an intentionally poorly designed unboxing video under the alias @philasneakerguy68. Starting the video with an explosive transition screen, Smith begins to awkwardly fumble through the unboxing process while a bevy of annotations and cards flood the viewer’s screen. After Nike out a 23.5cm of the shoe’s unique details and proving that it is “jump ready”, the Fresh Prince himself debuts a satin gold friends and family version that will be given out to only 23 lucky people around the world. To coincide with this cheeky homage to YouTube unboxers, Smith created an @philasneakerguy68 Instagram account that pokes fun at the internet’s countless sneaker leakers, with photos of the shoes at unconventional angles and water marks that take up a large portion of the screen. Check out the entire unboxing parody video below and enter for a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience in honor of Smith’s birthday, as well as a opportunity to win the F&F version of the 5s here.
