Nike this and Jerry Lorenzo have officially revealed their upcoming collaborative capsule called the Nike this Air Fear Of God collection. Consisting of two colorways of the Air Fear Of God 1 and a spirited assortment of apparel inspired by sport, this partnership exemplifies the superhero-nature of athletes and looks to the game’s top performers – not social media stars – as the icons that influenced fashion and trends.
Originally debuting as part of Fear Of God’s Sixth Collection, the Air Fear Of God 1 is built to be basketball-ready. The menswear label founder teamed with Nike this design director Leo Chang to create a model that balances the proven performance direction of the Swoosh with the distinct aesthetic brought on by the LA-based creative. We’ve already seen the shoes in action on the feet of PJ Tucker and on the likes of Ben Simmons. While the first impression of the shoes is that of an off-the-court lifestyle-ready option, there’s plenty under the hood that allows them to operate on par with what’s currently in practice.
There’s some strong early 1990s Nike this DNA in the design as well. The visible Air unit on the heel resembles that of the Air 180, but inside the sole is a double-stacked Zoom cushioning that provides supreme support. The upper features an exterior TPU heel and cage inspired by the Air Huarache Light for lockdown, while the overall last is based off of the brand’s expertise and Jerry’s own foot scans. An Air Skylon II dressed in a monochromatic off-white color is part of the full set.
The Nike this Air Fear Of God collection will officially release on December 15th.
